Talk Therapy

In talk therapy sessions we will explore and unpack your traumatic experiences. These may result from an unhealthy relationship or a variety of other sources. Trauma causes our system to become easily overwhelmed and it can react with emotions such as anger, anxiety and low mood. If your system has been overwhelmed for some time you've likely developed coping mechanisms to help manage, and many of them may no longer be working. If you find that you continue to repeat the same patterns in interactions with others and these are no longer helpful, it might be time to change them. I will help you to learn about yourself, how your body reacts and together we will find healthier and more adaptive strategies for you to use to help regulate your system and your emotions.

Supervision

Are you a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying; RP-Q), Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or a Registered Social Worker (RSW) seeking supervision? Do you want supervision from someone with many years of experience in various different areas of mental health services?
I have been in the field for over 16 years and have experience in child protection, community mental health, employee assistance and private practice. I have experience working with individuals, families, and teens.
My supervision approach is informed by training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Attachment Based Approaches. It is trauma-informed, systemic and anti-oppressive.

Free Consult

Book a free 15-minute consult to see if I would be a good fit as your therapist or your supervisor.

EMDR

In EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, we will explore and reprocess your traumatic memories. This method allows you to reprocess your memories while focusing your attention on eye movements or another type of bilateral stimulation. Once the memories are reprocessed they are still there but they are no longer upsetting.
When we experience trauma our brain can't catalogue the memory of the event the same way it would other memories. As a result these memories end up being stored incorrectly and we often remember them in pieces or they are triggered by other thoughts, sights, smells etc. EMDR allows your brain to heal itself and puts the memory back in the right place on the shelf.
In EMDR you will learn healthier ways to cope with your emotions in the present. You also learn that you are safe in the present and that your memories occurred in the past and are not occurring right now.
